Mind Over Matter Is A Key to Success in Parenting
PASADENA, CA The Mind Over Matter (M.O.M.) attitude is key to building character, courage, and determination in your children. It helps you overcome racial prejudice, social barriers, personal differences, and other hardships and find success in life.
Paula Hines Lonergan is a freelance writer and author of A TITAN OF A MAN A Coach of the Famous ‘71 Titans Who Inspired Generations of Young People and she firmly attests to the benefits of maintaining the M.O.M. attitude. She learned the M.O.M. attitude from her father and says of him, “He taught me to mind the important things in life and how to recognize what they are. He guided me through words and deeds. The lessons stay with me today, as with generations of other young people he taught and coached.”
Audrey "Lil Foxy" Brown, one of Doc’s students said of his teaching, “You were a wonderful and exciting teacher at Minnie Howard [School]. You were firm, yet balanced. You always looked out for all of us as if we were your own.” Coach Paul “Doc” Hines was the offensive line coach of the newly integrated 1971 T.C. Williams High School football team featured in the Disney movie “Remember the Titans.”
Good parenting skills are developed by using M.O.M. In these trying and unsettling times, parents need to help their children develop good coping skills. The parents themselves should be the positive role models and set a good example for their children. Proper child-rearing includes the exercise of balance discipline. Discipline does not always mean a spanking or a whipping, it really means to train and mold. It includes correcting the children when they doing wrong, but it also includes giving commendation and encouragement. Parents need to mind important things in life when it comes to their children by giving them time, love, and attention.
Mind Over Matter is about having proper priorities in your life. Applying M.O.M. means learning to sticking to your goals, no matter what obstacles come your way. It’s about overcoming successfully handling problems. It’s about maintaining self-esteem and having respect for others. Find success in life and develop tenacity and determination in yourself and in your children by using M.O.M.
